What better way to celebrate International Women’s Day than by taking to the table with marvellous mama and dancer turned farmer – Chloe Gill. Having carved out an illustrious career as a professional dancer, Chloe not only took to the stage with the likes of Beyonce and Whitney Houston but danced her way into the heart of husband, JLS member JB Gill, when they met on The X Factor back in 2008. A wedding and two gorgeous children later, the pair have set up home on their farm in rural Kent. With wellies and wheelbarrows now common place, their smallholding successfully produces award winning KellyBronze turkeys and free-range Tamworth pork.
Understanding the importance of food from field to fork, mealtimes for the Gills are a key part of family life both and off the farm. We took ten with Chloe to discover what she favours when it comes to feeding the family in Kent and which mega mamas she’d love to break bread with this International Women’s Day…
1. I’d like a table for…
For four people. Having a meal out as a family, or at home as a family is the most precious thing you can do. We do have one rule though, NO phones while we are eating!
2. Early-birds catch the coffee at…
The Old Post in Nutfield. The perfect place to grab, coffee, hot chocolate or lunch with friends. I also use this gorgeous place to get some work done while I don’t have the children.
3. Best brunch with kids?
Our local Ask Italian. Before you have even had time to get stressed that the children will need taming, the colouring pens and paper are on the table and the children’s starter is already out – which is healthy may I add – carrot, cucumber sticks & dip!
4. Children’s menu must-visits…
When we aren’t at home cooking as a family, which we love to do most Sunday’s, we pop to our local pub. The Aperfield Inn have the PERFECT mini roast dinner for children which goes down a treat!
5. Where do you grab a bite with mums en masse?
The Ivy Brassiere in Cobham is always a great shout when it’s a girly lunch!!
6. Hidden gem for treating tiny ones?
Our little ones LOVE frozen yoghurt, so I would say anywhere there is a Snog frozen yoghurt.
7. Best piece of advice for dining out with kids?
Be organised: Take colouring pens & pad, an activity book and reading books and have it all to hand if needed when the boredom kicks in! Also, make sure you order ASAP so the food comes quickly. I ALWAYS order the kids food before we order ours!
8. Date night – takeaway or take me out?
Really, I love both, just spending time with my husband alone and reconnecting outside of hectic everyday life and children is great. But if I’m not too tired, I love to get dressed up and be taken out on a date!
9. My earliest food memory…
Eating mussels in france when I was about 7. I remember LOVING them and all the people in the restaurant thought it was fascinating. My parents have always been encouraging of my sister and I trying different foods and I think it’s paid off as I love to eat everything! Well, except Brussels sprouts!
10. Five mums, one table – who’s joining you to celebrate International Women’s Day?
Oooh… Jada Pinkett-Smith, J-LO, Chrissy Teigen, Kris Jenner and Ciara
