Club Mexicana at The Spread Eagle
Did you know that The Spread Eagle is London’s first 100% vegan pub? From the fixtures and fittings to the food and drinks, this family-friendly local is entirely plant-based. With food by the brilliant Club Mexicana, they do crazy-good vegan Mexican food that is packed to the rafters with flavour. All this Veganuary you can tuck into their epic Short Rib Feast – a platter resplendent with Glazed short ‘rib’; pickled jalapeños & pink onions; salsa verde; annatto mayo & hot sauce; triple fried potatoes; beer battered pickles; lime- coriander slaw and soft corn tacos (see above). Fancy weekend brunch with the brood? Club Mexicana at The Spread Eagle go all out every Saturday and Sunday between 12-4pm. Breakfast Tacos are wrapped with love – tempeh ‘bacon’, triple fried potatoes, salas roja, black beans and all the trimmings make this a perfect pick for the grown ups. For nippers, the sides serve up smaller portions – try this Chick’n’Wings and triple fried potatoes with chipotle mayo. If you’re looking for a comfort food fix, by Chloe doesn’t compromise on flavour, taste or satisfaction. Straight from the streets of NYC, by Chloe now have eateries across London – Covent Garden, Oxford Circus, the O2 and One Tower Bridge. Famed for their Guac Burger, the rich black bean, quinoa and sweet potato patty is loaded with corn salsa, tomato, lettuce, oodles of guac, crisp tortilla strips and slathered in chipotle aioli all served in a whole grain bun…have we tempted you yet? Brunch is baby-friendly with berry packed morning oats, ube pancakes with coconut whipped cream and the AB + B Toast goes down a treat with older kids – a sweet raw almond butter, banana and pure maple mix laid down on 7 grain toast. Cold pressed juices, brews by Good + Proper Tea and kicking coffee makes by Chloe a must-try.

Promoting healthy eating for nearly three decades, The Gate’s Middle-East-meets-Mediterranean dishes hero vegetables from starter to Sunday roast. If heading for brunch with the babe, why not add a little spice to your mid-mornings with their lip-smacking Heuvos Rancheros. A golden corn tortilla laden with re-fried beans, fried organic eggs, a fiery Colombian Aji salsa, green jalapeño and corriander relish, between bites be sure to keep your cool with a mean-green with a kale, green apple, lemon and lime juice. With a dedicated kids menu serving up two courses for £6.50, little ones will go nuts for sietan nuggets served with mushy peas and chips and for finger-food loving tots why not order the potato and cheddar croquettes. For the month of Veganuary, and coinciding with Chinese New Year, The Gate will be collaborating with the legendary celebrity chef Ken Hom, OBE to present menu filled with plant-based Orietnal promise. From crispy rice paper asparagus rolls, the Buddhist Casserole and a luscious warm banana in plum wine with candied ginger – this is just a taste of the menu running between 21st January to 9th February 2020.

With marble for days and stripped birch trees lining the restaurant, this stylish pay-by-weight eatery is not only rich with vegetarian dishes but also specialises in vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and refined sugar-free treats. With oodles of choice, kids can pile their plates with goodness including corn on the cob oozy with vegan butter and spring onions, moorish Thai sweetcorn fritters and an abundance of scrummy salads. Founded in Brighton in 2015 and now nestled in the heart of Camden, Purezza is the UK’s first vegan pizzeria. With pizzas topped with fresh artisan mozzarella delicately crafted from a fermentation of organic Italian brown rice milk but sourdough bases can be swapped for hemp flour or gluten-free options. The Cheesus is a true twist on the Quattro Formaggio and Pesto Manifesto a colourful homage to Italian ingredients. Calzone, lasagne and pesto spaghetti have all been given a pretty impressive plant-based makeover. Parents, need a good excuse to grab good pizza? Here’s one! After the success of Joel and Aiste Gazdar’s Wild Food Cafe in the heart of Covent Garden, the pair have brought their vegan plates to Islington. Boasting a slightly more roomy restaurant, this spot is ideal for meat-free family meals, menus are fully plant-based, raw, vegan and packed with flavour. Chilly days don’t have to mean salads and slaws, go hot and hearty with Italian Meatball pizza cannily crafted from walnut & oyster mushroom meatballs, marinara sauce and and cashew cheese; courgette nodle carbonara smattered with kale, dill and parsley or swing into action with the Samurai burger – a wild spiced olive, wild mushroom & pepper pattie, aubergine, kimchi, wasabi aioli and teriyaki sauce. A dedicated kids menu is short but perfectly formed with faves including rice & quinoa fusilli dressed in marinara sauce with pine nut parmesan and hummus with hefty sweet potato wedges. Be sure to save a spot for the much snapped rainbow cheesecake for pud!

Hailed as ‘London’s best vegan Sunday roast south of the river’ by The Metro, Brixton’s Cafe Van Gogh is a real gem of a find. Not only are they driven by ethical practice and social purpose being a not-for-profit organisation but there seasonal changing menu is a plant-based delight. Weekday lunches are packed with world flavours from tofu bahn mi to tamarind glazed pumpkin pepped up with tomato black Dahl and flatbread. Sunday’s come alive with their acclaimed vegan roast – nut and butternut squash wellington comes iron rich with kale and pumpkin seed pesto, seasonal veggies and a lush red onion gravy. Gluten-free puddings include cashew and chocolate pots and a classic apple, berry and ginger crumble with lashings of vegan custard.

Notting Hill’s Farmacy is not only steeped in style but promises a menu overflowing with ‘clean indulgence’. Supporting both a vegan and vegetarian diet, the choice is plentiful and the dishes colourful. Their cult Earth Bowls are not only Insta-worthy but packed with wellness, our favourite – the Kimchi Spring Bowl, a pickle fanatics dream of soba noodles, spicy kimchi, sautéed spinach stems, raw seasonal asparagus, raw brine carrots, marinated mushrooms, and radish sprouts. Tiny diners will melt for the Mac’N’Cheese (vegan to boot!) and the starter size pizzettas are a great dinky dining option for smaller tums.

Vegan Afternoon Tea at Cafe Forty One
Time for tea? If you’re bound for Hyde Park to celebrate the best of the festive season at Winter Wonderland, why not wrap up a family day out with a quintessentially contemporary vegan afternoon tea. Cafe Forty One at La Suite West trailblazed London’s first vegan French patisserie filled tea and is notably one of the finest in the capital. Coronation jackfruit, tofu mayo and cress fill finger sandwiches, vegan scones are ready to be slathered with whipped coconut cream and topped with seasonal fruit compote and the chef’s cake stand is resplendent with vegan sweet treats for the whole family.
