Table Talk with Alice Rose

Alice RoseA powerhouse of positivity, strength and hope, meet Alice Rose. Alice is a 36 year old IVF-mum of one who resides in London with her husband, daughter and second babe on the way. Whilst balancing a career as a Creative Development Director at award winning independent production company Quidem Productions, she is driving a mission to empower people during one of the hardest experiences in the world: a fertility journey. From her own personal experiences, Alice is a champion at guiding those trying for a baby to feel stronger, safer and more in control with thought provoking podcasts, mindset courses and inspiring ownership events.

Whilst feeding the soul and mind is paramount, taking ten to feed the family is just as important. With toddler in tow, Alice shares her favourite family-friendly restaurants and cafes across South London…

1. I’d like a table for…
Three please! My husband, our 2 year old and yours truly. Matilda always happily scoffs an egg, so brunch for us/lunch for her always works well. This is cheating as it’s not at all where we live but for (very much) a treat you can’t beat a champagne breakfast at Duck and Waffle. I always feel like a total rock star when we go!! We took Matilda at 4 weeks old and the staff were amazing (even mid newborn meltdown).

2. Early-birds catch the coffee at…
Baby Spinach on Streatham High Road (part of Yoga Rise). It is really bright, fresh and friendly with good coffee – and loads of amazing healthy juices and smoothies too, ideal when you’re trying to conceive and on a fertility friendly diet (you might be avoiding caffeine!).

3. Best brunch with kids?
The Railway on Greyhound Lane has loads of high chairs and a little kids library. They are well used to having lots of little ones razzing around and there’s a nice sunny garden too.

4. Children’s menu must-visits…
The Mere Scribbler has kids toys, plastic cups and mini cutlery as well as a giant colouring in menu…it’s got a nice little garden too with outside sofas (which Matilda enjoys clambering all over, as long as they’re not being used by other customers obvs. We have boundaries!)

5. Where do you grab a bite with mums en masse?
Brockwell Lido cafe is amazing for a group brunch with gorge food and coffee. I often gatecrash my best friend from school’s NCT lunches with all their little ones (I left a lot of my own mum friends behind in North London when we moved last year…but my new local mum-mates game is getting stronger!!).

6. Hidden gem for treating tiny ones?
The Rookery Cafe is a dream…such a lovely place sitting on top of Streatham Common where you feel a million miles from the fume-tastic High Road and its plethora of slightly questionable eateries…it’s right next to the Rookery Gardens which are absolutely beautiful too. We take monkey nuts to feed the squirrels. Wholesome innit.

7. Best piece of advice for dining out with kids?
Um, an iPad. All I know is she’s happy, we’re happy and it makes for a jolly nice time on the whole!! But also, I do try and sit with Matilda most meal times at the table. I have SOME mum standards. Some.

8. Date night – takeaway or take me out?
We have a fish and chip take away addiction and few things bring me greater happiness than a glass of wine, fish and chips and my husband. But I do miss a proper date night which don’t happen that often at the moment!! I love going to new places and the theatre.

9. My earliest food memory…
Birdseed and custard. Yep. Not really but this was a pudding at my primary school and we loved it!! It was a sort of seedy, nutty, sweet granola thing I think which just tasted amazing with that really crap custard they make in a vat! Loved it.

10. Five mums, one table – who’s joining you?
Anna Whitehouse
(Mother Pukka) hilarious, smart, genuine and kind – I’m fan! Elle Wright, author of Ask Me His Name, who is making enormous changes in the baby loss and fertility world – hilarious (again…I like humorous women), generous and brilliant. Anna Mathur – psychotherapist, hilarious (yep) and authentic. Stevie B Style – one of the most gorge souls I know, sharing body acceptance and positivity messages, confidence and style.
