Love it or loathe it, avocado on toast has become a breakfast stalwart for kids and adults alike. Nigella may have taken a social-bashing by slathering a round of dinklebrot with an avocado smush, but we can’t help but agree with Ms L on this one – it really is a scrummy start to the day. If the purist’s choice (avocado, a citrus spike and a sprinkle of chilli for the brave) doesn’t do it for you, we’ve found three avos on toast with a twist in North London…
The one with…feta
Is green is your thing? Put down that trendy juice and saunter down to Bluebelles in Mill Hill for an evergreen breakfast of champions. Piled high on slices of seeded toast and a mass of peppery rocket sit two poached eggs flanking a feta flecked smash of avocado – a creamy hit offset by the salty pang of feta.
Bluebelles, 57 The Broadway, Mill Hill, NW7
The one with…salsa
When the yummy Mummy’s of Primrose Hill need a breakfast fix they head to Greenberry Cafe for an avocado on toast laden with fresh salsa. Chunks of sweet fresh tomato smattered with burst of coriander and lick of lime not only make for a colourful breakfast but the poached egg atop packs an extra protein hit.
Greenberry Cafe, 101 Regents Park Rd, London, NW1
The one with…artichoke
